The last rehearsal, so to speak, for Jurgen Klismann and company before The Hexagonal Round of Qualifying begins on February 6th away to Honduras.  Yes, that’s 9 days away.  In what will be one of the Yanks most difficult road fixtures in qualifying, the U.S. will face a very good Honduran team at Estadio Olimpico, where it qualified for the 2010 World Cup on its’ last visit.

First, the Yanks will want to gain some momentum against a depleted Canadian team that were trounced 8-1 by, you guessed it, Honduras to knock themselves out of qualifying contention in October.  The Canadians were also thoroughly outplayed by Denmark just 2 days ago in a 4-0 defeat.  Though many American fans have penciled in this US v Canada fixture to become of a rivalry, it has hardly been anything of the sort, with the US posting a 8-0-7 record since 1985.  Many consider the Canadians underachievers with the likes of Dwayne De Rosario, Simeon Jackson, Will Johnson, Atiba Hutchinson, Julian de Guzman, and others in the team.  They have truly yet to take off on the international level.

One thing is for sure, many of the players in this US squad will be looking to prove themselves and show Klinsmann that they deserve a place in the team that travels to Honduras next week.  Most of these guys are on the fringes of consistent call-ups under Jurgen Klinsmann.

Here’s the full roster:

GK: Tally Hall, Bill Hamid, Sean Johnson

DEF: Tony Beltran, Matt Besler, A.J. DeLaGarza, Omar Gonzalez, Connor Lade, Alfredo Morales, Justin Morrow, Jeff Parke

MID: Kyle Beckerman, Alejandro Bedoya, Brad Davis, Mix Diskerud, Brad Evans, Benny Feilhaber, Joshua Gatt, Graham Zusi

FOR: Juan Agudelo, Will Bruin, Eddie Johnson, Chris Wondolowski

Not a ton in the way of experience in this team – Eddie Johnson leads the pack with 44 caps.  Great to see Matt Besler and Omar Gonzalez in the team… Many consider these 2 the future of USMNT center backs.  A surprise call-up for Connor Lade, albeit after an impressive season with NYRB.  Klinsmann keeping his faith in Kyle Beckerman and Benny Feilhaber..  It will be interesting to see how Klinsy plans to incorporate Mix and Brad Davis into this side.  Wondo getting another deserved look after a record-setting season in San Jose.  Agudelo had an impressive cameo in the draw away to Russia last year. Will Bruin also impressive with Houston all season getting his first call into a US camp.

As for Canada, they have begun their rebuilding with some new faces.  See full roster:

GK: Lars Hirschfeld, Roberto Stillo, Simon Thomas

DEF: Ashtone Morgan, Nana Attakora, Dejan Jakovic, Doneil Henry, Mason Trafford, Andres Fresenga

MID: Nik Ledgerwood, Philippe Davies, Terry Dunfield, Kyle Bekker, Russell Teibert, Jonathan Beaulieu-Bourgault, Emmanuel Gomez, Matt Stinson, Evan James

FOR: Tosaint Ricketts, Frank Jonke, Kyle Porter, Dwayne De Rosario

As you can see, most of these guys play professionally within the MLS or USL.  Nik Ledgerwood has been a descent signing for Hammarby in Sweden.  We’re all aware of what DeRo can do in the attacking third.

Barring a disaster, this should be a relatively comfortable game for the Yanks, one would think.  Let’s see what Klinsmann can come up with in this one.  We wouldn’t mind seeing goals on goals…
