Its kind of amazing to think that its over now, but the first ever supporter organized convention for USMNT fans is now in the books, and the American Outlaws Rally was a rousing success. A mix of fans, media, gambling, beer, love letters, campaigns, and icons was exactly what the doctor ordered in the break between games leading up to a crucial summer for our boys.

Friday night’s meet and greet at O’sheas set the tone for the weekend. Members representing chapters from Rhode Island, Florida, Washington, California, and everywhere in between were treated to a surprise appearance from the event’s keynote speaker Alexi Lalas, who hung out and chatted for more than 2 hours.

Saturday morning’s 10am start time came as a rude awakening for the attendees (some of whom decided to just skip sleeping altogether). They were kept awake, and by and large enthralled, by what turned out to be a very entertaining and informative collection of presentations.

After a short intro from AO heads, US soccer icon Alexi Lalas got things going the right way with a funny, heartfelt and informative “love letter” to US fans.

After lunch, Little Feet revealed their hopes and plans of starting an army of people to distribute soccer balls to less fortunate kids around the US and World. Giving chapters and members the ability to create their own custom program.

Dan Wiersema of the Free Beer Movement then made his case, quite hilariously, for the best way to grow the number of American fans.

After a short break, FIFA presidential hopeful and SI journalist Grant Wahl made a great presentation, which he then capped by leading the attendees to Las Vegas Boulevard to make a video appeal to Sepp Blatter and FIFA with all the fans behind him.

(Official Video of this, to be released on Tuesday!)

And finally, American Outlaw honchos went through what AO is hoping to do in the future, while getting input from members around the country.

Then everyone at the Rally had the pleasure of viewing the first look at One Goal’s forth coming documentary, “Laduma”!

Following the meeting, chapter representatives and attendees returned to O’sheas for another fun filled night, only this time with both Mr. Lalas and Mr. Wahl in attendance.

The whole weekend was a damn good time, and would not have been what it was without the help of sponsorships from Golazo energy drinks, Parlaid clothing company, Fox Soccer Channel and Pepsi Max. TenDot Travel Company did a fantastic job making everything run smoothly, and MLS Insider did a great job covering it (http://mlsinsiderblog.com/).

Thanks again to everyone involved, particularly Alexi Lalas and Grant Wahl. I can’t say enough good things about either of them. It is incredibly gratifying to know that guys of their stature that we worship as fans can be so easy going and generous.

Until next time!
